When compared to another running shoe by Nike, the Nike Free 5.0, the Nike Free 3.0v2 lacks certain features such as the synthetic suede upper. However, both shoes use the same NikeFree technology in order to help the wearer develop stronger feet.

The Nike Free 3.0v2's one-piece mesh upper is designed for lightweight comfort. The breathable and flexible mesh gives the user, according to Nike, a "barefoot-like fit and feel". The molded sockliner of the shoe mimics the foots natural curve, in order to provide the wearer with comfort and support. The rubber outsole provides durability. The rubber outsole also has a Waffle pattern for improved proprioceptive feedback, and improved traction.

The Nike Free 3.0v2 is available in both men's (sizes 6, 8, and 15) and women's (sizes 5-10.5, 10, and 12) varieties, and is available in white/red/gray, black/gray, orange/blue, as well as many other color variations.
